About Us

In 2012, Bolt Fabrics was born from a passion for fabric. Susan Durso, the owner of Bolt Fabrics, was a long-time customer of another locally-owned store that closed in July 2012. Feeling a void left by the loss of her favorite fabric store, Susan decided that the Central Texas home decor market needed a new source for modern and contemporary fabrics. Susan met with Melissa Markman, an experienced fabric store manager and buyer, about collaborating on a new store and, from that discussion, Bolt Fabrics was born.

Bolt Fabrics opened in South Austin at 2200 South Lamar on September 15, 2012. Melissa serves as the store's manager. Susan is in the store on Saturdays and other days as she is available. Bolt Fabrics works hard to provide personal service to each customer. Bolt offers recommendations to vetted professional upholsterers, personalized design suggestions and fabric recommendations and custom fabrication of pillows, drapes, bedding and soft furnishings.
